Hello Thornhill Neighbors!
Happy Summer!
I hope that you have been able to visit our greatest amenity in Thornhill, the pool and pavilion area. We have had some awesome changes there and hope that everyone can experience and enjoy them during some restful and relaxing time that you can find in your days.
I had a meeting with CPM management and our lifeguards to talk about the summer so far and looking ahead and there are just a few things that I would like to emphasize.
Our lifeguard’s first responsibility is the people IN the main pool. For the lifeguards in the chair(s), that is their number one responsibility. They have many other responsibilities as well when they are not on the chair and during adult swim. Please be respectful of them, as you would anyone else. They are doing their job as I and CPM have defined it for them. If you have questions about procedures or expectations, please contact myself or CPM. Please do not give our lifeguards a hard time when they are only doing the job that we have asked of them.
We have a procedure in place that we ask you to follow when you get to the pool and it should be immediate and automatic. Please go over and sign in at the lifeguard table AND show them your pool tag. They do not bring the book to you. If you do not have your pool tag, you will be asked to go home and get it before you are allowed entrance to the pool. Our lifeguards have also begun doing “spot checks” for pool tags on our busiest days. Because we have so many people who are coming in the back gate and not going over to sign in, sometimes it is difficult to keep up with who has signed in if the procedure has not initially been followed. Just keep your pool tag handy in case you are asked again. If you bring guests with you that live in Mecklenburg County, there is a $2 guest fee per guest over the age of 2. Payment is expected immediately so please plan accordingly and bring cash or a check made out to TCA.
The new “Turtle Bay” is a HUGE hit with parents and kids alike! I am so glad to see so many little ones (and big ones) enjoying our new pool. We do have a rule in place that, during adult swim, the older kids can come in for that 10 minutes to enjoy it as well. I know that this is a concern for some. Parents of the older kids…you must supervise your kids if they are going into “Turtle Bay” during adult swim. They should not take rafts or water soakers into the area. If they are unruly while visiting “Turtle Bay” they may lose the privilege. If you have complaints about specific kids, please tell the lifeguards. Parents of babies and toddlers…you have the privilege of taking your littlest ones into the main pool during adult swim. You MUST keep a hand on them at all times because a lifeguard is not on duty. This is a great time for you to work on some swimming skills or water comfort when the big pool is not as busy with the big kids.
Parents, please realize that whether your children are in the big pool or in “Turtle Bay” they are YOUR responsibility first and foremost. Please watch them when they are in and out of the water and ensure that they are following the rules of Thornhill’s pools and being respectful of others who are also enjoying the pool.
Lastly, remember that food IS NOT allowed on the pool deck of the main pool or in “Turtle Bay”. If you need to snack or eat a meal, please do so up in the pavilion. This helps control the red ant, squirrel, and bird populations. J The only time that there is an exception to this rule is when the pavilion is rented for a private party and there is not access. Beverages ARE allowed on the pool deck. No glass bottles please.
Thank you for your time and attention to these matters.
If you have any questions or concerns that I have not addressed, please feel free to contact me.
Happy Swimming!
