Expectations
The coaches are primarily concerned with our children's swimming technique and capability. At each meet, there will be many volunteer parents trying to manage the meet. If the coaches can coach and the volunteers can manage, our swim meets will be much more enjoyable for everyone. Each of us has a critical part in achieving this goal.
Coaches Mission
To provide a positive environment for your child. We believe that they are capable of certain responsibilities while they are on the team. We hope the season builds confidence in your child and we all look forward to the fun ahead.
Coaches Objectives
To provide a nuturing swim team environment for the children of our community. To be successful, we need the assistance of our team parents. Especially during swim meets, please have the team members at the assigned location promptly, as we have over a hundred swimmers to coordinate in trying to have a smooth and enjoyable event!
Swimmers
Our Tornados
- Attend all practices, 5 days a week, unless the swimmer is on a family vacation, sick or has practice of some other type that interferes directly with swim practice. Please discuss this with one of the coaches. Attendance will be taken.
- Shrimps must be able to swim the ENTIRE LENGTH of the pool unassisted before competing in a meet. They are expected to continue to come to practice to reach this goal.
- Attend all meets unless notification is given 1 WEEK in advance. Swimmers attendance at meets effects the coaches preparing for the meets as well as the team as a whole especially in relays.
- Swim caps are encouraged to be worn by all swimmers. They are required to be worn by any swimmer who has hair to their shoulders. Competition goggles are also strong encouraged. Recreation goggles will not stay on and will be frustrating to the swimmer.
- Team suits are encouraged by all swimmers. If you do not have a team suit the coaches request that the swimmer wear a solid color suit. ALL male swimmers are strongly encouraged to wear jammers not surfing suits with pockets. These suits effect a swimmers time by 2-3 seconds a lap and will be unfair to any relay team they may participate in.
- Cheering for teammates on the sidelines and end of pool (opposite end of timers) are expected at all swim meets.
- The events that the swimmers will be put in will be based on times and needs of the team. We look at the best interest of the team as a whole. We will make every effort to place each swimmer in the events they chose but ultimately it will be determined by the coaches.
- We expect that each swimmer have excellent behavior at all practices and meets and be respectful to their teammates, coaches, parents and opposing teams.
- We expect for the swimmers to take responsibility in keeping their personal belongings labeled, including shirts, goggles, caps, bags, etc.... We expect for each swimmer to pick up after themselves at practices, home and away meets.
Parents
Our Tornados
- To read over this Expectation List with your swimmer, especially if your swimmer is 10 or under.
- Motivate and encourage your swimmer to follow through with these expectations.
- To redirect any behavior of your swimmer that violates the above expectations.
- To volunteer at each meet, even if it is a small task such as picking up trash that may be on the ground.
- Controlling your swimmers behavior is ultimately your responsibility, as the coaches are focused on the meet and the swimmers in their events.
Our goal, as coaches, is to provide a positive environment for your child. We believe that they are capable of certain responsibilities while they are on the team. We hope the season builds confidence in your child and we all look forward to the fun ahead.
YES, We Will!
We are looking forward to teaching your children, working with you on managing
the swim meets, and providing a positive environment for our swimmers, parents,
visitors, and community!
Together, we can make it happen!
